Get you Baler for Free*

Publicerad: 6 May, 2024 av Ola Eborn |

At this year’s IFAT expo, Presona explains how you can get one of their advanced balers for free*.

*A baler with pre-press technology from Presona has significantly lower operating costs compared to a traditional shear baler with the same performance, allowing it to earn back its own purchase cost. Sound interesting? Read on to understand how this is possible.

A Presona baler stands out in several ways compared to many other balers on the market. The key difference is the pre-press technology, which in practice means that a baler from Presona consumes about 30 percent less energy than a shear baler with the same capacity. This is because the Presona baler uses smaller motors, which lowers energy costs without compromising performance.

Furthermore, Presona’s innovative tying technology has been shown to use about 10% less wire than many other balers on the market. This can mean up to four meters less wire per bale, which represents a significant saving over time.

Example of how a Presona LP110 can save a lot of money.

Presona balers are also known for their durability. With a lifespan often of 20-30 years or more, each baler becomes a long-term investment that continues to deliver economic benefits year after year.

“The low energy consumption, wire efficiency, and longevity together create a very competitive offering for those in need of a baler who want low operating costs. So low that the baler can actually pay for its own purchase price,” says Stefan Ekström, CEO of Presona AB.

Save 30 percent on energy with a Presona baler

Publicerad: 3 October, 2022 av Ola Eborn |

Electricity costs have always been a large part of the operating cost of a baler. However, with the sky-high electricity prices of today, it pays better than ever to get a genuinely energy-efficient baler.

Presona balers are about 30 percent more energy efficient than most other balers on the market due to the prepress technology. Add a Variable Frequency Drive to the baler and it will use even less energy.

Simply speaking, there are five costs associated with operating a baler: purchase price, staff, service, consumables, and electricity. Of these five costs, electricity costs are one of the easiest for the baler operator to influence and lower. Lower energy consumption is achieved by choosing an energy-efficient baling technology. If you want to lower your energy usage even more, you can also add a Variable Frequency Drive to your baler.

The energy-efficient Prepress technology

How the prepress works

All Presona balers use prepress technology, while many other baler companies make so-called “shear balers.” Shear balers use a knife to cut the material that can’t fit in the press chamber. This cutting process uses up some of the pressing force. Prepress balers apply pressing force from above (by means of the prepress), thereby closing the press chamber and eliminating the need for a shear. This way, a prepress baler can be equipped with a smaller motor (that uses less energy) while still having the same capacity as a shear baler with a bigger motor.

– We calculate that a prepress baler uses about 30 percent less electricity than a shear baler while compressing the same amount of material, says Presona CEO Stefan Ekström.

Variable Frequency Drive

In addition to the built-in energy efficiency of the prepress technology, all Presona balers can be equipped with a Variable Frequency Drive (VFD). A VFD will help optimize power use when the baler is waiting for more material to compress, which lowers energy consumption even further.

– At most recycling facilities, a baler will be actively compressing materials only about 70 percent of the time. The remaining 30 percent of the time, the motor will run idle, which uses electricity. So when the baler is waiting, you want either a very efficient idle or a complete shutdown of the baler. A VFD helps with that, says Stefan Ekström.

Energy meters

Do you want to know exactly how much energy your baler uses? Then, get an energy meter for your machine. With an energy meter you can get information like energy usage per bale and other data straight to your touch screen.

Want to make baling cheaper? We’ll show you how at IFAT 2022

Publicerad: 11 May, 2022 av Ola Eborn |

The MP 270 MH has a completely new baler design which will reduce recycling costs while increasing operational efficiency.

The secret to super-high capacity

The secret to MP 270 MH’s high performance is parallel processes and self-optimization. When the material that is to be compacted falls into the baler, its density is automatically measured and then the baler optimizes itself and proceeds to pre-compress the material to 200 kg / m3. The pre-compressed material is then moved to the main press which creates finished bales while new material is being pre-compressed.

“This design’s super-high capacity means that it can replace several smaller balers at a significantly lower cost. The cost per baled tonne drops significantly when you use a MP 270 MH,” says Presona CEO Stefan Ekström.

45 tonnes per hour

The baler has a real capacity of 45 tonnes of material* per hour. That’s 50 percent more than Presona’s second-largest baler, the LP 140, and three times as much as the smaller LP 60.
(*Material weighing 50 kg/m3 before baling.)

Representatives from Presona Sweden and Presona Germany will be available on the IFAT stand B5.351/450, ready to explain to visitors how the MP 270 MH “Mega” baler can help them save money on baling.

Presona experts will also be on hand to explain how Presona’s range of energy efficient LP Series prepress balers can help recyclers meet their output goals while saving money on electricity.

New kind of baler makes recycling cheaper

Publicerad: 23 September, 2020 av Ola Eborn |

“In practice, we have put a turbocharger on a baler. I think we are the first in the world to do that,” says Stefan Ekström, CEO of Presona.

The new baler, which has the fitting nickname “Mega”, is intended for recycling and sorting plants or other businesses that bale large quantities of material.

Self-optimization and parallel processes = super high performance

The secret to MP 270 MH’s high performance is parallel processes and self-optimization. When the material that is to be compacted falls into the baler, its density is automatically measured and then the baler optimizes itself and proceeds to pre-compress the material to 200 kg / m3. The pre-compressed material is then moved to the main press which creates finished bales while new material is being pre-compressed.

“Being able to pre-compress and make finished bales at the same time means that the capacity will be much higher compared to other types of balers on the market. The pre-compression can be compared to a turbocharger – by increasing the density of the added material we get much higher output, ie more bales per hour. This means that the cost per bale will be lower,” says Stefan Ekström.

45 tonnes per hour

The baler has a real capacity of 45 tonnes of material* per hour. That’s 50 percent more than Presona’s second-largest baler, the LP 140, and three times as much as the smaller LP 60.
(*Material weighing 50 kg/m3 before baling.)

Self-optimization saves resources

The MP 270 MH’s software for self-optimization ensures that the machine is always running optimally. This function also reduces the need for staff to set up and change the baler’s programmes. Less staff input decreases the risk of incorrect settings which can prevent the baler from being used to its full capacity.

A real multi-material machine

Like all Presona balers, the MP 270 MH is a real multi-material machine. Whether you want to bale cardboard, plastic film, household waste or newspaper, “The Mega” can do it. There is also a special programme for pressing PET, which can be a difficult material for many balers.

The baler saves money

“This design’s super-high capacity means that it can replace several smaller balers at a significantly lower cost. The cost per baled tonne drops significantly when you use a MP 270 MH,” says Stefan Ekström.
