WMS Nordic chose Presona for flexibility and outstanding service (Video)

WMS Nordic AB is growing and wants to grow even more. To get there, the company needed more baling capacity, greater flexibility and good service close at hand. The solution was an LP 85 VH K1 baler from Presona.

“We bale almost everything in plastics and paper, and we needed a baler that could handle a wide range of materials. That’s why we chose Presona,” says Christian Stridsberg, Head of Operations and co-owner of WMS Nordic.

He describes his business as a materials company, not a waste management company.

“We mainly handle two products: plastics (polymers) and cardboard (recovered fibre). If a customer has a challenge in either of those areas, we solve it,” he says.

WMS offers a wide range of services for plastics and paper, including material sorting, shredding, repacking and, of course, baling. The compressed bales of plastic and corrugated cardboard are sold on to be made into new plastic and new paper.

Growth brings new demands

Today 24 people work at the company’s two sites, in Kävlinge in Skåne and Falkenberg in Halland, southern Sweden. Ten years ago it barely existed. Until 2016, Christian and his business partner worked full-time at other jobs, buying and selling material and baling corrugated cardboard with a small vertical baler in their spare time.

“We realised we couldn’t carry on like that. We’d started getting regular customers and needed premises to store the material.”

They quit their jobs and found premises in Kävlinge. Later they expanded with a site in Falkenberg and a used horizontal baler with a pre-press. Customers and demands both grew. The solution was a Presona baling press, installed in Falkenberg in 2025.

“We needed more capacity to serve our customers. With the new baler we can produce more than 100 bales of corrugated cardboard in a single shift,” Christian says with satisfaction.

Because WMS specialises in solving customer challenges, it was also important that the baler could handle many different types of material, and that operators could switch easily between different grades of plastic and paper.

Service nearby is a must

Another key factor was having service close by.

“Machines like this need regular maintenance to keep their long service life and, like all technical equipment, they may need servicing and repairs over time. That made Presona an easy choice. They’re only two hours away. On top of that, the machine is connected to the internet, so Presona’s service department can help us remotely. That keeps our downtime shorter and saves us a lot of money,” Christian continues.

Well-formed bales improve the bottom line

The Falkenberg site bales 4,000 tonnes of corrugated cardboard and 2,500 tonnes of soft plastics every year. Much of the cardboard arrives partly compressed, which was a challenge for the previous baler. It couldn’t compress the material properly, and the bales sometimes fell apart, so some paper mills refused to accept them.

The LP 85 VH K1 doesn’t have that problem. The reason is a combination of better compression and the ability to tie the bales both vertically and horizontally, known as cross-tying.

“The very best thing about the new baler is that it can tie from both directions. We get higher density and the bale holds together. We fit more material on each truck, and that increases profitability,” says Christian.

Christian Stridsberg looks att bales of plastic canisters.
“With the new baler we get really nice bales. They’re spot-on dimensionally. When we bale plastic canisters, we’ve increased our truck load weight from 12 to 16 tonnes,” says Christian Stridsberg.

Another Presona baler

WMS Nordic now plans to keep growing with another site in Skåne, where the company wants to install a channel baler at least as large as the one in Falkenberg.

“We firmly believe in what we do, and we can see that we’re growing. We don’t want to build an empire. We just want to be really good at what we do. And the next machine will definitely be a Presona,” Christian Stridsberg concludes.
